Salesforce deploys three (3) major releases every year. These releases are innovations that help businesses continue to thrive and drive efficiency.
They also push out additional updates more often to address a variety of technical concerns called Critical Updates. These are similar to the operating system and app updates on your mobile phone.
The difference is Salesforce Critical Updates are automatically deployed after a period of time. Salesforce gives plenty of time to address the updates but they are eventually deployed automatically whether your system is ready or not.
For example, Salesforce’s intuitive new Lightning interface will be deployed on January 7, 2020 whether you are ready or not. See this post for more information on implications.
